Museums are more crowded than markets #逛博物馆比逛菜市场还挤#
Buying scalped tickets to enter museums was unimaginable before, but now it’s common in China. During holidays, tickets for some museums are even resold for over a thousand yuan. This year, during the Labour Day holiday, reservations to key national museums increased by 406%. Major museums were packed, bringing “sweet troubles” with it: visitors complained about the difficulty of making reservations, chaotic order inside the venues, overcrowding, inability to see exhibits, not being able to scan QR codes, and not being able to rent audio guides. People wonder, with this flood of visitors, how should museums adapt?

42-year-old Internet celebrity bubble tea founder loses millions in two years #42岁网红奶茶创始人2年亏损千万#
“In my 42 years of life, I never thought I’d experience debt. I once believed I was destined for success,” says Xie Yao.
In 2016, Xie Yao started her first media venture with a small team, earning up to 20,000 yuan per day by posting several articles daily. In 2019, she invested 500,000 yuan to open a bubble tea shop, transforming it from nearly empty to bustling within just two months. Her daily income grew from 7,000 yuan to an annual turnover of over 40 million yuan in just three years. During this period, she founded her own company and opened nearly 300 stores.
“When things are going well, you tend to overestimate your abilities,” Xie reflects.
In 2021, envious of a competitor’s bubble tea shop earning 30,000 yuan a day, she adjusted her production methods, losing her unique edge. This led to a decline in revenue. Coupled with subsequent poor decisions, she ended up losing 10 million yuan and accruing 2 million yuan in debt. She sold her house and her parents’ inheritance to pay off the debt but still owes tens of thousands of yuan.
Now, Xie Yao runs a hotpot restaurant in Chengdu, earning nearly 100,000 yuan a month. She remains optimistic, saying, “There’s still hope, I believe I can pay off the debt within two years.”
